FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Arpin sneaks by the "Big One" and grabs an 11th place finish at Talladega
Talladega, Alabama (April 24, 2009) – It was an exciting day for Steve Arpin and the No. 20 Full Force Archery, Inc. Toyota Camry. After dodging wrecks throughout the afternoon, the team continued to do so right up until the end, missing the ‘big one’ by mere inches and finishing the day in the eleventh position.
The team qualified in the eighteenth position with their fastest qualifying lap at 52.007 seconds Thursday afternoon.
From the start, it looked like a great day for Steve Arpin and the No.20 Full Force Archery Toyota as the team was running in the 6th position when the first caution came out.
Steve was able to hold his position after the pit stop, but the team noticed the right front tire was down to cords and had to pull the No.20 Toyota Camry back onto pit road for a second stop to pull the right front fender out.
The incident sent the team back into the 24th position, where they fought tooth and nail to get back towards the front of the main draft.
A flash back from Daytona came on lap 86 , but this time Steve Arpin anticipated what was going to happen and reacted fast. With the help of long time friend and Spotter, Lorin Ranier, Steve moved as fast as he could up the track, tucked up to the wall and snuck by the “big one” by mere inches.
Arpin was pleased with the ARCA RE/MAX 250, “Our team did a great job this weekend, we ran a solid race and our Full Force Archery, Pinewood Sports Toyota Camry ran with the lead pack for most of the race. We had some tire rubs that got in the way of our pit strategy that cost us some ground, but we bounced back on the next caution and were able to get back in the lead draft. There were some close calls there a couple times, but with Lorin Ranier’s eyes on top of the tower we were able to sneak through! It was a very educational day for me, I learned lots about drafting and how the air works so we are going to be ready to use as much of that knowledge as we can at Kentucky. We have a new crew chief on board with us now and we are looking forward to going to Kentucky and start posting some strong results.”
Next Stop: Steve Arpin will travel to Sparta, Kentucky for the ARCA RE/MAX Series Drive Smart Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 Saturday night, May 9 at the Kentucky Speedway.
